I have had this rotary iron for two months and absolutely adore it. Will admit that I like to iron and coveted this ironing machine for several years before making the substantial financial investment. I also have an Ironite Mangle that I purchased used about five years ago and although I still love the Ironite, the Miele is a major mechanical leap forward. What I love best about the Miele is the foot press that automatically controls the ironing plate. Also like the fact that the iron has three heat settings and actually gets hot enough to quickly iron my Italian cotton sheets. I love to sleep on ironed sheets and pillowcases and I can iron a King size sheet with the Miele in about four minutes. For optimal results you really need to dampen the cotton sheets prior to ironing which I accomplish by spraying the sheets with scented linen water and seasoning in a plastic bag for about 15 minutes before ironing. The linen water (Vodka, Lavender & Peppermint essential oil mixed with water)really provides an aroma therapy effect. So if you have nice linens and want to keep them in excellent condition, the Miele is a must.

My grandmother purchased an Ironrite Mangle in 1955, and it's been the most coveted part of her inheritance to my mother (her daughter-in-law.) A friend of mine has also coveted my mother's Ironrite--and the perfectly pressed cotton shirts that it produces.

Recently, my friend proudly announced that she had a "NEW" Ironrite, and invited me over for a test drive.

The Miele doesn't do a bad job at all; in fact, if I'd never seen an ironing machine before, I'd have been quite impressed.

Having learned to use the Ironrite when I was 11, though, made me aware that it's not nearly as intuitive a machine; and as far as durability is concerned....no.

My TOP recommendation, if you're in the market for an Ironing Machine, is to get online and look for an Ironrite fan club site, and see if anyone's got something for sale in a reasonable radius from you. If you live in Minnesota/Wisconsin, there's a good chance you'll be able to find a working one.

HOWEVER: If you can't find an Ironrite, the Miele is better than an ironing board by a couple of orders of magnitude, and would be worth giving a try if you have a lot of things you like ironed, rather than left 'permapressed' out of the dryer.

This is a terrific machine, even better than I hoped. My husband and I like ironed clothes and sheets, and I don't mind the work that goes into having things crisp and neat. This machine has certainly cut down the time I spend doing that, and is a real pleasure to use.

Honest reviews on Miele B990E Rotary Iron

I agonized over purchasing this rotary iron due to it's high cost. I'm a bit of a neat freak and conventional irons drive me nuts. The Miele rotary iron is a joy to use. Flat items are a breeze ( linens, pillow cases, etc ). Much more effective if the item is slightly damp. It's great for pressing collars and cuffs. Slacks, especially khakis, are more of a challenge. Tee shirts fold superflat after running through the iron. Love the minimalist Miele styling. Only complaint is that the casters are not omnidirectional. It only rolls in one direction. Tilting and rolling to go around corners is a little annoying. Otherwise love it.

I bought this to use at our bed and breakfast. I iron all of the bedding and table linens. I had been ironing everything by hand and was developing some kind of wrist problem before I bought this machine. I have had it for almost 3 years.

I iron, on average 10-15 hours per week. Sometimes I get up and forget I was ironing and come back hours later and the iron is still on. I think the iron has performed thousands of hours of ironing, and many more hundreds of hours because I am absent minded.

It is useful for anything that is square or rectangular. It is difficult to iron fitted sheets because they get caught on the right side of the iron and sometimes can be a pain to unwind.

My only issue with this machine is that it is clunky to move around. I was wheeling it across saltillo tile and one of the (plastic) wheel clips broke. Now I am finding it difficult to buy replacement parts, as well as a new pad for the rotary part, as it is quite flat after all the ironing I've done.

I've tried to iron shirts and other items and haven't had much luck. I'm always afraid I'll iron over a button and break it (just like you frequently get at the dry cleaners!).

I love this machine, it is a workhorse.
