Spillproof: I was very surprised to find out that the placemats are spillproof. We had a spill of almost an entire glass of water, and it bubbled up on top the mat. It wasn't perfect (like a spillproof tablecloth), but once we got the water off the mat was only slightly damp.
Cleaning: I ran these through the washer with low heat and warm/cold water and they shrank a bit. As I noted above, just out of the package, they are huge. So, I wasn't too upset because I like the new size more. However, they did get a bit stiff which I am not a fan of.
Summary: I started with 4 stars for look right out of the package, -1 for handling the washer/dryer, +1 for being spillproof.

Like the product very high quality. The quantity was misleading. Said set of 8 which is what I wanted. But it's really a set of 4 4 placemats and 4 napkins. I ordered an additional set after these arrived to get the complete 8 that we wanted.Best Deals for DII Fringe Placemat Table Linen, Set of 8
I love these placemats and napkins. They're vibrantly colored, thick, and they don't slip. I've washed them several times already and the color hasn't bled or faded. I found the description misleading. It says a "set of 8". A set of 8 should be 8 placemats and 8 napkins. I would never spend this much on 4 placemats and 4 napkins. A place setting always includes 1 of each, hence an 8 place setting of silver wear or dishes would include 8 of each item.
