This is a piece of plastic with a flat-ish beanbag (small white styrofoam beads) on the bottom. For a couple of Lincolns, you have a simple little laptop desk. Works nicely in bed, on the couch, etc. Pretty light, very basic.

For writing, maybe it's not so good as there is a little ridge that frames the plastic top, around 1mm, that may dig into your arm, or at least be enough to irritate or annoy you... also, there's not enough space to rest your forearm anyway.. plus(!) the texture of the top surface isn't good for writing on a single sheet.

So, good for laptop/netbook, not so good for writing or anything else that you would want to rest your forearms on it for.

Note that it's way big for the average netbook. Actually, it's probably big enough for a 17 inch laptop! I wish it was the same size as a netbook, but that's not the product's fault!

I don't review products that often, but I felt I had to express my disappointment with this. The problem is that it's basically a cheap thin piece of plastic. So thin in fact, that it was totally warped when I got it. My laptop WILL NOT sit flat on it because of this. The center of the lap desk is raised so the computer just wants to teeter around on it. The surface is also slippery enough that the rubber feet on the bottom of the laptop get no grip whatsoever when they do occasionally make contact. If I take my hands off of the computer, it slides right off the thing. Yes it shields the heat, and the soft bottom is comfortable, but the fact that it's warped makes it almost unusable. I guess I should have spent the extra dough and bought a wooden lap desk.

I purchased a student lap desk for my daughter to use at college for her laptop. My wife used it before my daughter left for college so I had to purchase another. Now I am hooked and just purchased a third for myself for use while watching Netflix movies on my laptop in my favorite comfy chair.

There are other larger, woodens lap desks available but in trying them at the store they were not as comfortable as this one.

The bean bag base makes the laptop comfortable on your lap while allowing for ventilation for heat dissipation.

Like some other reviews say, the top is way to slippery. If you use it for a laptop or netbook, it slides all over the place. Otherwise if you use it for writing or something it seems to be just fine.

I found this lap desk very comfortable, but the first one was badly warped when I unwrapped it, and the second has cracked in two places after about 6 weeks of use. I will be sticking to higher quality (probably wood) ones from now on.
