They have a nice smooth felt backing, but the fronts are very shinny. I must say that the ostrich print is sharp though.

When I opened, got my other purchase out of the the box I almost threw them away. They r very stiff, and maybe I did not read the description very well, because they r more like cardboard. Right now they r not n my table.

Nice mats for a modern tablescape. The boards are hard and felt backed but not very thick. You have to take care of these so they don't bend. They look sleek. Nice dark shade of black. Not too shiny. The Ostrich pattern is elegant and subtle. I match them with Lenox matt black napkin rings and large black napkins. It really makes the dishes pop. Looks good with contrasting white or red too. Wipe clean. Adults only, not for kids. Don't get them wet!
