I did not visualize a 9x9 size when I listed these on our wedding registry. Once received, I was very disappointed by the size of these mats. They were too small to use as placemats, but too large as coasters. If one can use these as mats for tablerunners or underneath table decorations, they would probably function better. The quality is not as burlap-rustic as I had hoped, more of a tighter weave than the photo suggests. I wanted rustic-looking mats for plates/silverware, and these won't work for my idea.

I bought these mats for a small wooden table that I use in the kitchen
when I'm having close friends for breakfast. They are the perfect size and
weight for a simple meal. Since I haven't washed them yet I can't be
sure about that fifth star.
