I purchased this table-and-chairs set for my grandchild, knowing that American Girl products are great quality (though expensive.) I was delighted with how beautiful the set is, and saved it as a surprise, after my husband and I created a special doll room to match the era and color. Unfortunately, the table set was a complete disappointment! The chairs are NOT made for American Girl dolls to sit in! We tried four different AG dolls (both Pleasant Company and Mattel), and none of them could sit in the chairs; they slid off, despite our patient efforts. We finally anchored the dolls in with long twist ties around their abdomens and the back of the chair, and although they didn't slide any more, the chairs tipped forward, unbalanced. We were only able to use them with the dolls tied in and pushed near enough to the table not to topple forward.

The table is perfect great size, and a great copy of the 50s style table it mimics. I love the way the chairs look, but they're simply NOT FUNCTIONAL. I have to say that I'm very disappointed. I got a couple of wooden chairs with woven seats on ebay and painted the frames red; they work fine. However, when I paid a very large sum of money for doll furniture, I expected that the AG set be perfect in every way. I DON'T recommend this set, cute as it is.

My parents purchased this table and chair set through AG for our daughter's 8th birthday. The set is pricey but well made. I agree that the dolls do tend to slide around on the chairs, but if the dolls are bent at the waist,set on the chairs, then the chairs pushed into the table, they work fine. I suppose if the dolls' legs bent at the knees, they might stay on the seats better, but I have read that most of AG's chairs are like this. It sounds as though AG needs to redesign their dolls or redesign all of their chairs. We have had the set for almost five months now and it still looks and works great. It actually reminds me of the set we had when I was a little girl in the late 70s (it had been inherited from my grandparents). It offers a flashback to my younger days. We are really enjoying the table and chair set and appreciate the generosity of the gift givers. It works fine when used as intended: as a table and chairs set.
