This is the only steam cleaner I've ever had so I have nothing to compare to...but I LOVE IT!!! I purchased this because I needed to clean out my rental apartment and figured with what it would cost for a professional cleaning, I could buy myself a steam cleaner and then be able to have it for personal use as well. The apt. was FILTHY! it smelled like smoke and had at least 3 years of build up on the walls, baseboards and window sills... this powered thru layers of caked on oil, dirt, hair, glue, petrified food splatters and paint splatters!! Initially, I thought I would have to paint the window sills, they are original 195o's ceramic old school tiles, with dirt caked into the recesses of the textured glaze and impossible to get completely clean. Within just a couple of swipes, the little round brush tip cleaned them so well they looked like they were BRAND NEW!! grout lines in the shower as well! It works beautifully on my hardwood floors (they are stained and lacquered) took me 20 min. to do what would usually take an hour or so(I used to get down on my hands and knees, spray and wipe them dry to get them shiny) now they are just as shiny with 1/4 the work!

This Eco steamer may be one of the best purchases I've ever made. The only thing to beware of is the little brushes that I love, get ruined quickly when doing grout and heavily soiled surfaces. I later found the trick to using them: do not apply too much pressure when scrubbing with the little brush, with a gentle back and forth motion, let the tips of the bristles and steam do the work... the heat from the steam will slowly melt the bristles into an ineffective smashed brush tip if you press down to hard. You must go to Sienna's official site to purchase replacement brushes and it ends up costing $23($15 + $8 shipping) for 3 little plastic brush tips.

My first steamer was a Shark and although I liked it a lot didn't last for too long. This time I decided to pay more for a better a product and after reading so many positive reviews on different websites I decided to go for the Sienna Eco Canister Steamer.

The idea of the steamer was to use it mostly on my laminate floors which worked perfect with the Shark steamer I used to have. This steamer is very powerful and does a very good job. The downside is that it releases too much water and doesn't dry right away. This is a problem for me since it could damage my laminate floors and I have them pretty much everywhere in the house.

Now I have to dry the floors after steaming them and this creates more work for me. I read somewhere that if the cloth is too wet I have to change it and I did, but still the floors don't dry. This steamer is perfect when I use it in my bathroom floors because it is tile and I don't mind waiting a few minutes until it dries but not good on my laminate floors. I wish I could find a solution for this....

I recommend this product but NOT for laminate or hardwood floors.

Honest reviews on Sienna Eco Steamer Canister Steam Cleaner SSC-0312

I gave 3 stars because the machine does function. It takes off mold and cleans which is why I purchased it. However for the chemically sensitive person it has one aspect that I didn't count on. Along with the water vapor comes strong plastic vapor, perhaps PVC vapor, from the plastic tubing. It really bothered my lungs.

The whole idea was for me to be able to clean in a non-toxic way. Perhaps the smell would go away with time. I didn't wait to find out. I returned it to Amazon. I love their wonderful return policy and they issued a prompt refund.

If you are a chemically sensitive person and find a steamer that doesn't do this, please add the name to the comment section of this review. I would love to own a steamer.

Like anyone who has dealt with bedbugs, I am constantly waiting for them to return. In addition to hiring a pricey and "eco friendly" PCO, I bought this steamer. I used it to clean my apartment after the treatments (and regular mopping), which made me feel more comfortable having my cats walking around and then licking their paws etc. Now I use it to clean my floors (got rid of very scary and old gum stuck on the floor etc). I haven't really gotten the hang of how to use it for my bathroom. But here is why I love it the most: I have a new couch, which I love, which is upholstered and which I am paranoid about getting bedbugs in. I use the steamer to clean it. I can even steam the underside of the couch by flipping the floor attachment upside down, so I don't need to try to turn it over or get down on my hands. I really love having a completely odor free, toxin free cleaner (except for plastic heating up, which I ignore).

Best things about it: Price (considering everything, it's quite cheap), size of canister (small but I can clean my entire couch obsessively, my living room floor and my bathroom in one go--and I work slowly), clips to hold cleaning pad on the floor brush (which means they are easily replaceable and any rag can be subbed in), lots of attachments and a nice long cord. Simple to use: add water, put on attachments, plug in, turn on, wait to warm up, spray trigger. Clean!

Things which suck about it: No way to wind cord, no way to know how much water is left inside, crappy instructions, holding down the trigger takes too much pressure and steam is sometimes continuous and sometimes needs constant triggering.
