First off, I'll preface this review by saying that I didn't purchase this item on Amazon. There was a $20 deal on Groupon for this laptop stand and that is where I purchased it.
I was excited to receive this, as I have been looking for an adjustable stand that I could move between my office and bedroom. I had been hemming and hawing over several of the other options here on Amazon when the Groupon deal popped up and I jumped on it.
When my stand finally arrived, I unpacked it and organized the parts (few as there may be) before putting it together. There are no assembly instructions, though you shouldn't really need them. I should have noticed at this time that my box was missing a critical piece (the plastic cap that tightens up to enable custom heights).
The first thing that I noticed about the stand is that it was considerably smaller than I was expecting. This isn't really a negative by itself, but the company could post some size comparison shots on their product listing. The metal bars that make up the skeleton of the stand are small (about the circumference of a Dime), but to their credit, they are sturdy and they feel well-suited to support the weight of a good-sized laptop. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the plastic that makes up the rest of this stand. It is thin and brittle, and gives a decidedly cheap feel to the entire thing, despite the sturdy metal underpinnings.
Up to this point, I would have been inclined to give this stand a 3/5. The missing part (an unfortunate mishap, but it happened nonetheless) and cheap plastic bring the value of this item down, but I could still see its utility. However, once I realized that it was missing that critical tightening cap, I decided to disassemble it and pack it away. During disassembly, the plastic mounting bracket at the base (which holds the bars that support the desk surface) cracked! I've worked with more than my share of IKEA-style self-assembled furniture, and I did not apply more than what I consider to be reasonable force. The damage to the base is such that the desk surface still stays up until any amount of weight is placed on it, then it collapses.
In light of how flimsy the plastic components of this laptop stand are, I have no choice but to give it 1/5. I cannot and will not recommend this desk to anyone, and I suggest you steer clear as well.

It is very unstable even when fully tightened, and there is not way to adjust it to make the top actually level. The top is slightly angled to one side making it definitely of no use if you wish to use it for a drink. (not an issue for me..what WAS an issue, however is the fact that this flimsy junk dropped my laptop to the floor on first usage. Returned!!! Utter garbage!!!
