I purchased this item for my 12 year old son to increase usable space in his room. The bed shipped on time/quickly. It took me a hour and a half to assemble with minimal instructions, but it is pretty straightforward to figure out. The stain of the wood is consistent and looks fantastic. The wood itself comes from Viet Nam and is very light (not sure of the wood family). The wood can be easily dented or scratched, but no more than a comparable expensive Pottery Barn kitchen table I have. After tightening up every bolt and screw and attaching the ladder, the bed looked great did exactly what it was intended to do. I would have preferred a bed that was more sturdy when climbing onto the bed, once it was moved into the corner and had the support of the walls of the bedroom, that was less of a concern. My son LOVES it. And for the price and the look we got, we love it too.

We purchased this loft bed for our 8 year old daughter. It was delivered in about 2 weeks and packaging was very rugged and complete. I found it fairly easy to assemble. It took about 4 hours to assemble, it would have been much less, but I had two of the legs swapped. That meant the backside lower stabilizer bar had holes only on one side. Besides that error (mine), it should have been closer to 3 hours assembling.Complaints: First, 2 of the nuts were stripped. I had to go to Home Depot for new nuts. Second, the side rails have VERY long wood screws (5 or 6")... almost impossible to do by hand, so you better have a power driver. The wood is soft pine, so you can damage it by over tightening be careful.
After assembling, we put our daughters small dresser in one end and I built a desk into the other end. I also added a bulletin board above the desk (1/2" plywood with cork board glued on). Screwing this into the frame significantly strengthened the loft bed.
A few years ago I purchased a university loft bed for my older son for over $1,000 (very strong maple construction). I can buy 4 of these beds for the same price and I predict that this bed will serve our daughter for as long is will be needed.
She really loves it and I highly recommend it.

I figure that I'm going to have to reinforce the ladder soon. Seems a bit weak. Also, the slats under the mattress are flimsy. Other than those two things, it's quite sturdy. I'll probably put a piece of 3/4" plywood under the mattress soon. I'm sure the only reason the weight limit is 165 lbs is because of the low quality slats. Easy fix with plywood but not sure why they opted for weak slats when the rest of the structure is quite sturdy.Honest reviews on Canwood Base Camp Loft Bed
I researched quite a bit looking for a loft bed for my 9 year old son. We really didn't want to spend $1000, and most of the beds I found were either $200 (and seemed really cheaply made) or over $1000. So the price on this one was great. I loved the Mission style of the bed and the height looked good. After reading the reviews I decided to take a chance on this one. I am happy to say I am completely satisfied with this bed.Bed arrived quickly and all pieces were in excellent condition. It took my husband and I working together about 2 hours to put the bed together. Directions were easy to follow. All went smoothly except when putting on the ladder. It seemed a little unsteady so my husband added a strong screw and that worked well. It is true, as some of other reviewers have stated, that there is a big safety sticker at the head of the bed (and some other stickers labeling the parts). Very ugly. I was able to remove by scrubbing off the sticker with a rag and warm water and then removing the rest of the adhesive with the product "goo off". Worked perfectly.
I was relieved that the bed was very solid. There is very little wiggle to the bed at all. It looks great. We ordered the espresso color and it has a nice rich color to it. We have 8 foot ceilings so I was a little concerned about the height, but he has plenty of room when up in the bed.
My son loves the bed and it looks great. For this price, I definitely give it 5 stars.

We purchased this loft bed because we needed to fit two kids in a small room and still use existing furniture. Based on the price and the reviews from other Amazon users, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. It arrived ahead of schedule (we've found most things ordered from Amazon usually do, definitely a plus), everything was in the two boxes. As far as assembly, my husband is rather handy so he didn't encounter any real issues. The wood is a bit soft, so take care so you don't dent it too much. There are a few spots in inconspicuous areas where the paint could have used a few more coats. Also, good luck getting the little round stickers off (that label each piece)...you will definitely need some patience and Goo-Be-Gone to get them off of there!!
It's taller than a traditional bunk bed, so the kid sleeping up there needs to adjust a little...we had a couple of head bumps on the ceiling getting in and out of bed, and making the bed up with the sheets is a huge pain, but you have know that going in! It takes up about the same space on the floor as a bunk bed would, and we have a twin captain's bed underneath and there's still room for a small bookshelf and a nightstand.
Overall, for the price, we are pleased and although it's only been about 3 weeks, it is holding up really well.
