These are quite thick. Because of their thickness they are also quite stiff. Some rattan placemats will have quite a bit of flex to them more similar to cloth. Do not expect that from these. You could put a scalding hot cast iron skillet on one of these and likely whatever was underneath would be okay. They are all well made and uniform. There were no twigs sticking out or frays. They wont be falling apart like many flexible rattan placemats tend to do. If you are on a lumpy surface though these will not conform to the surface. If you bump an edge, instead of the edge giving, the entire placemat will move. That can be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. They are well made though without question.
