My husband and I bought a Canwood Mates Collection Double Bed for our young daughter. My father, who has experience and knowledge of woodwork and construction put it together. He had many issues putting it together. We could not have done it without him. Here is his review:

Quality: Average

Packaging. No obvious external damage.

Damaged Parts.

Dust cover for bed slats (part G). One section damaged on end. Not a functional problem.

One drawer side (part I3). Obviously split and reglued along drawer bottom (where part I4 slides into saw cut guide). Glue slop-over made fastening drawer guide "tricky." Filler used to "square-up piece." For a bed frame of this cost, this should have been a virgin piece, not a repaired piece.

Long 3 in. wide wooden piece (part C) not drilled per diagram. This placed the cam lock face down (on bottom) for center section to properly fit with Part D. You then need a stubby Phillips screwdriver to fasten cam lock from below when assembling parts.

Drawer guide predrilled starter holes do NOT line up with drawer guide mounting holes. This is the most critical alignment element. See below for suggestion to install.

Drawer pull screws rusty. Not a functional problem but not made of zinc.

Construction.

Be sure cam locks are fastened firmly enough to remain tightened when moving bed. Will require frequent retightening. Be sure to use properly sized Phillips screwdriver to prevent stripping.

Drawer guide holes do NOT line up. Pencil in a straight light line through the 3 predrilled starter holes. This will allow you to keep the guide in alignment when you predrill new holes to properly fasten drawer guide. Use of this line to install the guides will retain the manufacturers alignment. Line will not be visible after assembly.

Instructions.

Parts list diagram too small to see properly. Should be laid out as full page "life size" to make it easier for assembler to identify parts.

Part number 7 is wrongly labeled as drawer knob part. Should read: 24 ea. round head screws for shelf back (part A8). Instruction number 6 should use part 7.

Quantity of part 11 should then be reduced to 39 (flat head screw) used on drawer guides (part 15) and dust cover (part G).

Materials.

Solid wood parts: A1, C, D, E, F (end pieces), I1, I2, I3, I5.

Particle board pieces: A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, B, F (center section).

Fiberboard parts: A8, G, I4.

Finish. Lacquered nicely.

WTF that bed better be made of GOLD for 10,000 dollars. This is a rip off and wish Amazon would do something about people ripping others off.

This bed is mostly made of particle board, except for the cosmetic outer pieces. Yes I realize the description says it is made of solid pine.

The few pine parts are warped, bent, and because it is pine, it easily dents, chips, and cracks. These pieces are clearly those rejected for pine lumber.

/The metal fasteners are made of diecast and strip, crumble, and come loose /immediately/. This causes the bed to strain and crucial parts to come apart. This is the most significant flaw of the bed. It will not stay together. When you assemble, it would be wise to have a drill and bolts as well as wood glue to fasten the pieces together over the "fasteners"/. The rest of the fastening is done with wooden pegs (yes, wooden pegs) and a few actual screws and bolts.

This causes the rollers on the drawers not to fit. The bent wood also makes the drawers not fit evenly into the bedside. The drawers fall off the rollers and become jammed in the bed side.

If it didn't require me to take the bed apart again and pay $$$$ to ship it back for a refund, I would do so immediately. Be warned: I would warn ardently about purchasing this bed.

It was my mistake not to think to add extra fastening to this bed while I put it together. But given it is supposed to be a $400 bed frame, I didn't think I needed what is necessary for putting together a $45 child's department store dresser set. Which holds up much better than this bed.

hardware and instructions was missing in the first box we received! All those wood pieces laying around in the room, after hardware and instructions arrived (weeks later) a piece of support wood was missing, soooo wait again, after putting it together the rails for the drawers are so cheap, only had a few clothes in there and they are bend, cheap made...DONT DO IT! So now I do not even want to buy the dresser, because its cheap and worthless, so I will get rid of this bed and buy something at the store. :/

I bought this bed and waited 10 days to receive it, no biggie. Wood frame was damaged with a large dent/gash. I received TWO headboards, TWO footboards and TWO sets of slats AND was missing everything necessary for putting the rest of the bed together! Mind you that this is not a bunk bed and the headboard is twice if not three times as tall as the footboard.

Canwood/Storkcraft is a joke!!! They are located on Canada's west coast and are only open from 7-3pm PST. I emailed them pictures and a copy of my receipt 3 and a half days ago and am only told that someone is working on sending me the missing items. I asked to have them sent Priority of Overnight because it took so long for the initial shipment and was told that they don't have that capability because they use FedEx! I don't understand that because the company I work for uses FedEx and we can choose the shipping method that is needed for each shipment. My daughter's room is now covered in wood pieces and she is sleeping in the living room! She can't even go in her room because of all of the wood/boxes etc.

I will never order from this company again!!! I find it funny that I was told this has never happened but am now finding more and more review with the same exact issues!!!
