This is a good value product which can be made even better if the buyer does some extra work. Having read mixed Reviews, I called an old Canwood customer service number and was told that another Canadian company, Storkcraft, had acquired their furniture line and relocated manufacturing. That information made me more comfortable that the quality of the bed should be suitable for my 5-year old grand-daughter because her Storkcraft crib/ youth bed had proven to be an excellent product.

The Pros: Unbelievably quick shipment; The bed is all kiln-dried pine (no MDF); Engineering and parts fit are excellent.

The Surprises: This product was manufactured in Viet Nam, not Canada, and the quality of finish was inferior to our previous Storkcraft white furniture. One box (rails and slats) had a build-date of Aug.2011, and the second box (headboard and footboard) had a build-date of Oct.2011, but paint match was close; None of the wood was primed and only one coat of white paint had been sprayed, so knotholes in the pine had already seeped a yellow color through the finish; This "twin bed" is made for a bunk application, and Storkcraft doesn't supply any plugs for the holes not used in a single twin-bed application. (Storkcraft customer service did send me a touch-up kit consisting of a wax crayon to fill scratches and a white felt marker.) The Instruction drawing of the bed slats is incorrect, or the plant decided to staple the straps on the opposite side the day they made these partshint: counter-sinked holes should be up.

The Easy Fix to Make The Bed Perfect: Sherwin Williams or Home Depot did not have a match for the color. Lowe's has all necessary materials: Valspar #85001 Satin White, wood dowels, Elmer's Carpenters Wood Glue, Elmer's Probond Wood Filler (white), 220-grit sandpaper and Crown Next Paint Thinner.

Hint: Assemble headboard and footboard and determine which holes you will not use when rails are attached. I filled all unused (20) holes, so I needed three different diameter dowels (measure the holes you want to fill with a drill bit). Glue the cut dowels to about 1/16" below surface, apply filler (over dowels and deep scratches), sand the filler and any areas where pineknots have seeped, wipe all wood with paint thinner to remove dust, then spray paint. If you want to spray two light coats on headboard, footboard, rails, you'll need about three 12-oz. cans of paint...and you will also have resolved a common complaint in the Reviewspainted the unsightly, unfinished screw heads.

This was a very good buy! I was looking all over for a decent priced slat based bed for my 3 year old. I didn't want to buy anything too expensive because she is only 3 and I just wanted something for the 3-10 year range until we buy her a nicer set. But this white one is cute, sturdy, and easy to put together. The only bummer is that the bolt heads are a little bit of an eye sore, but not bad overall. Very happy with this buy!

We are very happy with this purchase. The color is beautiful and the bed looks great once it's set up. The basic product photos you see online do not do it justice this is one of those beds that look even better in person. The quality is really good. It will hold an adult; I was worried that it would not be sturdy enough, but it really is. I hear a minor squeak when we lean up against it to make the bed, but nothing major at all. It was easy to put together; my husband and I did it in a little over an hour. One person could probably put it together without a problem, it would just take longer. There is a big warning label/sticker on it, but the manufacturer probably heard all the customer complains and now put it on the back of the headboard, so it is not visible anymore. Overall, it arrived in good shape. There were minor scratches and one screw indentation (looks like a screw was lying on top of it and something heavy pushed it into the wood, leaving indentations). The biggest damage was about one square inch where the wood was actually clipped off, but it was in an inconspicuous place and the mattress now covers it. I'm very happy with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone, especially families with small children, tweens, teens it's a good first bed moving up from a toddler bed; yet it's sturdy enough that I would feel comfortable sleeping on it myself.

Honest reviews on Canwood Alpine II Twin Bed

Let me start by saying this bed is made in Vietnam. That's not a HUGE issue for me, and understandable for the price. It's PINE, so if you don't like pine grain, don't buy it. That all being said, it's not bad for the money. It's VERY easy to assemble (30 mins) (even without instructions as we received ours) and looks pretty good too.

It comes with extra hardware you don't need and extra holes drilled into it that again aren't utilized. The holes are kind of distracting IMO and it would be nice to get some hole plugs the color of the wood to close off the more noticeable ones on top.

I do agree with other reviews that talk about weight limits for this bed. My wife and son got on it and I could see the side boards move some. Not a lot, but you won't see me jumping in with him, we'd have a room full of toothpicks! lol

Overall we're happy with it. If it cost any more, we wouldn't be though. For a young child it's PERFECT!

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this bed, beautiful hard wood, easy to put together (which I did by myself). My daughter loves her new bed and I love the look of it. We used a box spring and mattress on it which makes it high off the ground, I probably could use a little ladder for her to use instead of a plastic stool. My daughter loves this bed and so do I. Great product.
